Asia ancient map by Alexis-Hubert Jaillot

L'Asie divisée en ses Principales Régions... is a large-format map of Asia created by Alexis-Hubert Jaillot in the late 17th century, first published around 1685. Produced in the grand French cartographic style, the map depicts the continent divided into its major political and geographic regions, extending from the Ottoman territories and Persia to China, India, and Japan. Richly engraved and embellished with decorative cartouches, it reflects European knowledge of Asia during the age of exploration while showcasing the prestige and artistic refinement characteristic of French mapmaking.

Alexis-Hubert Jaillot (c. 1632–1712) was one of France’s leading cartographers and publishers during the reign of Louis XIV. Originally trained as a sculptor, he became renowned for producing monumental maps and atlases based on the geographic research of earlier scholars, particularly Nicolas Sanson. Jaillot’s works combined scientific cartography with elaborate Baroque decoration, helping establish France as a major center of map production in the seventeenth century.
