John Speed (1552–1629) was England’s foremost cartographer and historian of the early modern period. His atlases, including The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine and A Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World, helped shape English cartography and remain highly prized for their historical value, visual appeal, and detailed engraving.
