"Bamboo Yards and Kyōbashi Bridge" (Takegaki Yashiki Kyōbashi) by Utagawa Hiroshige is a subtly elegant and quietly industrious scene from his late-career series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (1856–1858). Unlike some of the more dramatic or iconic landscapes in the series, this print celebrates an urban workscape, depicting the city as a place of daily labor, structure, and rhythm.
The scene takes place near the Kyōbashi Bridge, which once spanned a canal east of Nihonbashi—the heart of Edo’s merchant and administrative district. "Kyōbashi" literally means "Capital Bridge," and it was a well-known landmark in the city.
