"A Burlesque on Carmen" is a 1915 American silent comedy film starring and directed by Charlie Chaplin. The film is a parody of the popular opera "Carmen" and features Edna Purviance as Carmen. It was Chaplin's thirteenth film for Essanay Studios and was released in two versions: a two-reel version released in December 1915 and a four-reel version released in April 1916.
The film was not nominated for any Academy Awards as the Academy Awards did not begin until 1929. However, Chaplin's work, in general, has had a profound impact on cinema, and he was given an Honorary Award at the first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929 for his contributions to the industry.
