The 1856 commemorative broadside of the Declaration of Independence, designed and executed entirely with a pen by Gilman R. Russell. This intricate piece features the full text of the Declaration rendered in elegant calligraphy, surrounding a central portrait of George Washington, and is adorned with patriotic symbols such as an eagle and acanthus leaves. The broadside was printed by J.H. Bufford and published by William H. Fisk. This broadside was created to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Declaration's signing and served both as a patriotic tribute and a showcase of Russell's calligraphic artistry.
