Louis Icart (1888–1950) was a French artist known for his elegant and sensual Art Deco etchings, often depicting glamorous women in romantic or playful settings. His work captured the sophistication of early 20th-century Paris, drawing inspiration from fashion, theater, and literature. Icart gained immense popularity in the 1920s and 1930s for his delicate, yet highly detailed compositions, infused with soft, flowing lines and a dreamlike atmosphere.
"Leda and the Swan" (1934) is Icart’s interpretation of the mythological tale in which Zeus, in the form of a swan, seduces or assaults Leda. Icart’s version is both erotic and ethereal, portraying Leda in a delicate, reclining pose, enveloped in soft textures and light hues, emphasizing sensuality over drama. Unlike more classical depictions of the myth, Icart’s approach is subtle and romantic, reflecting the Art Deco aesthetic of his time
