"Psycho" is a 1960 American psychological horror film produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The screenplay by Joseph Stefano was based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch.
It stars Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates, a troubled motel owner with a complex relationship with his mother, and Janet Leigh as Marion Crane, a woman on the run who ends up at the infamous Bates Motel.
Considered a masterpiece of the horror genre, "Psycho" was groundbreaking for its time, pushing boundaries with its shocking violence and disturbing themes. Although it was initially met with mixed reviews, it was a box office hit and has since become one of Hitchcock's most famous and influential films. While it wasn't nominated for Best Picture, "Psycho" did receive four Academy Award nominations, including Best Director for Hitchcock and Best Supporting Actress for Janet Leigh.
