The Common Raven (Corvus corax) is one of the largest and most widespread songbirds in the world. It's an all-black bird with a glossy sheen, a large, powerful bill, and a wedge-shaped tail. Ravens are highly intelligent birds, known for their problem-solving abilities and complex social interactions. They are found in a wide variety of habitats across the Northern Hemisphere, from Arctic tundra to deserts to forests. Ravens are omnivorous and opportunistic feeders, consuming carrion, insects, small animals, fruits, and seeds. They are often seen soaring high in the sky or perching on prominent landmarks.
The Brown-necked Raven (Corvus ruficollis) is a close relative of the Common Raven, but as its name suggests, it has a distinctive brown neck. It's slightly smaller than the Common Raven and has a more slender bill. This species is adapted to arid environments and is found across North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. Like the Common Raven, it's an opportunistic omnivore, feeding on a wide range of food items. Brown-necked Ravens are also highly intelligent and adaptable birds, often seen scavenging around human settlements in their desert habitats.
