The Greyhounds (c. 1911) by Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso reflects the artist’s engagement with early European modernism. Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (1887–1918) was a pioneering Portuguese modernist associated with the Parisian avant-garde before World War I. Despite his short life, his work significantly shaped the direction of modern art in Portugal.
