"The Third Man" is a 1949 British film noir directed by Carol Reed. Written by Graham Greene, the film stars Joseph Cotten, Alida Valli, Orson Welles, and Trevor Howard. It premiered in the UK on September 2, 1949.
Set in postwar Vienna, the film centers on Holly Martins (Cotten), an American writer who arrives to meet his friend Harry Lime (Welles), only to learn that Lime has died. As Martins investigates, he uncovers a web of intrigue and deceit.
