Walter L. Greene (1870‑1956) was an American illustrator and commercial artist associated with industrial and transportation imagery, based in Schenectady, New York. He worked for the General Electric art department and produced calendar illustrations and advertising work for the New York Central Railroad.

“Thoroughbreds" was created around 1928 and served as a promotional or calendar piece for the New York Central lines.
