The Algerian Desert Sparrow is a small, pale bird with a distinctive black bib and large white wing patches. It is well adapted to the harsh conditions of the Sahara Desert, where it lives in sandy arid habitats, desert scrub, plantations, oases, and tamarisk scrub. They primarily feed on seeds from desert bushes and ground vegetation, but nestlings are fed insects. These sparrows are quite social and forage in pairs or small groups, collecting food on the ground.
They are relatively small birds, with adults reaching a length of about 14 centimeters and a weight of around 15 grams. Their breeding season is from March to August, and they build dome-shaped nests made of dry grass and small twigs. These nests can be found in trees, holes in walls or buildings, and sometimes even in the base of larger nests built by crows or raptors. The Algerian Desert Sparrow is not considered threatened, with its conservation status listed as "Least Concern."
