The Pintail (Anas acuta) is a graceful duck with a long, slender neck and a distinctive pointed tail, which gives the species its name. The males are particularly striking, with a chocolate-brown head, a white breast and neck, and a gray body. Females are more mottled brown with a shorter tail, providing excellent camouflage while nesting.
Pintails are found in a wide range across North America, Europe, and Asia. They breed in the northern parts of these continents, inhabiting wetlands, marshes, and tundra. During the winter, they migrate south to warmer regions. Pintails are dabbling ducks, feeding primarily on aquatic plants, seeds, and invertebrates. They are often seen in flocks, both on the water and in flight. Their conservation status is currently listed as "Least Concern."
