The Grand Canal at San Geremia, Venice by Francesco Guardi is an 18th-century Venetian veduta showing gondolas, palaces, and the church area of San Geremia along the Grand Canal. Guardi’s loose brushwork, silvery light, and lively water reflections give the city a poetic, atmospheric quality rather than strict architectural precision.
Francesco Guardi was an Italian Rococo painter famous for expressive views of Venice. Compared with Canaletto, his cityscapes are freer, moodier, and more romantic, emphasizing flickering light and movement. Guardi became one of the great masters of Venetian view painting.
