The Nouveau plan de Paris monumental was published in Paris around 1922 by L. Guilmin, a cartographic editor based on Boulevard Voltaire. Printed by Dufrénoy, this lithographed map was designed as a pictorial tourist plan of the French capital.
The map is distinguished by its colorful depiction of Paris, where major monuments such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, the Louvre, and the Opéra are shown in elevation, allowing viewers to instantly recognize the city’s landmarks. Streets, boulevards, gardens, and surrounding communes are clearly marked, while an alphabetical index assists navigation.
Guilmin’s “monumental” maps were issued from the end of the nineteenth century through the 1920s, with successive reprints reflecting the growth of the city. The 1922 version represents one of the classic interwar editions, retaining the charm of late-Belle Époque pictorial cartography while incorporating modern details useful for tourists of the day.
