A Streetcar Named Desire is a 1951 American drama film directed by Elia Kazan, based on the play by Tennessee Williams. The film stars Marlon Brando as Stanley Kowalski, Vivien Leigh as Blanche DuBois, and Kim Hunter as Stella Kowalski. It was released in the United States on September 18, 1951.
The film won three Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Vivien Leigh and Best Supporting Actor for Karl Malden. It was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Director. "A Streetcar Named Desire" is considered one of the greatest films ever made and remains a popular and influential work of American cinema.
