The Lady from Shanghai is a 1947 American film noir directed by Orson Welles. The film stars Welles himself, alongside his then-estranged wife Rita Hayworth, and Everett Sloane. Based on the novel "If I Die Before I Wake" by Sherwood King, the story follows an Irish sailor who becomes entangled in a web of deceit and murder when he falls for a beautiful woman and gets involved with her and her wealthy husband.

Though initially met with mixed reviews, "The Lady from Shanghai" is now considered a classic film noir, celebrated for its stunning visuals, including the iconic climax set in a hall of mirrors.
