The Sound of Music is a 1965 American musical drama film produced and directed by Robert Wise. It stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, with Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood, Charmian Carr, and Eleanor Parker. The film is an adaptation of the 1959 stage musical of the same name, composed by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.

The 1 film is based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers. Maria (Julie Andrews) is a young woman who leaves the convent to become a governess for the seven children of a widowed Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). She brings joy and music back into their lives, and they eventually escape from Austria to America as the Nazis invade.  

The Sound of Music was a critical and commercial success, winning five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. It is one of the most popular films of all time, and its songs remain beloved classics.
