Walter L. Greene (1870 – 1956) was an American illustrator and painter whose career blended commercial art with industrial promotion. He managed the art department of General Electric Company for many years and produced artwork promoting railroads, electrical power, and modern technology.
The train depicted belongs to the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad (“New Haven”) and features a streamlined EP-4 electric locomotive, manufactured by General Electric. Greene, known for his technical accuracy and dramatic visual style, worked extensively with railroads and industrial clients to promote modern transportation and technological progress through art.
