Europam, sive Celticam Veterem is an antique map of ancient Europe by Abraham Ortelius, first published in his historical atlas Parergon. The engraved map presents Europe through a classical lens, labeling ancient regions, peoples, seas, and kingdoms rather than contemporary borders. Its decorative cartouche, sailing ship, scale, and hand-colored details make it a fine example of Renaissance historical cartography.
Abraham Ortelius (1527–1598) was a Flemish cartographer and publisher best known for Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, often called the first modern atlas. He helped organize geographic knowledge into standardized printed maps, combining scholarship with elegant design. His historical maps are especially valued for linking Renaissance humanism with the study of ancient geography.
