Helen Dryden was a prominent American illustrator and designer known for her elegant fashion illustrations during the early 20th century. Working extensively with magazines she helped define the visual style of those with her refined Art Deco sensibilities. Her work often featured elongated figures, flowing garments, and a sophisticated sense of composition, blending fashion illustration with elements of fine art. Beyond magazines, Dryden also ventured into industrial design, notably working with Studebaker in the 1930s, showcasing her wide-ranging creative talents.
Brides and Summer (1917) is a prime example of Dryden’s vintage fashion illustration at its peak. A beautiful bride looks into a mirror created with graceful lines, and stylized figures that reflect the Art Nouveau and early Art Deco movements.
