King Kong is a 1933 American pre-Code monster adventure film co-directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack. The film stars Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, and Bruce Cabot. It portrays the story of a giant ape called Kong who is captured and brought to New York City for exhibition.
The film was a massive commercial success and is considered a landmark achievement in cinematic special effects. While it wasn't nominated for any Academy Awards at the time (the visual effects category didn't exist yet!), "King Kong" has had a lasting impact on cinema and popular culture, spawning numerous sequels, remakes, and other media. It is now recognized by the American Film Institute as one of the greatest films in American cinematic history.
