Gerda Wegener was a successful painter and illustrator, known for her Art Nouveau and later Art Deco styles. Her work often featured elegant and fashionable women. Lili Elbe, before her transition, was a landscape painter. The couple moved to Paris in 1912, where they immersed themselves in the Bohemian art scene Lili Elbe (1882–1931) was a Danish painter and one of the first known recipients of gender-affirming surgery. Born as Einar Wegener, she married fellow artist Gerda Wegener in 1904. Their relationship and artistic collaboration have become significant in LGBTQ+ history
