Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica ac Hydrographica Tabula — a richly engraved, hand-colored world map issued by Willem Janszoon Blaeu in the first half of the 17th century (c.1635; reissued in Blaeu atlases into the 1640s). It uses a Mercator-style projection, framed by allegorical planetary vignettes and a band of scenes (including the Seven Wonders) along the lower border; decorative cartouches, compass roses and sea monsters animate the oceans.
Willem Janszoon Blaeu (1571–1638) was a leading Dutch cartographer, globe-maker and publisher whose firm produced some of the Golden Age’s most famous atlases and wall maps; his training with Tycho Brahe and innovations in engraving and printing helped make his maps prized for accuracy and craftsmanship. Blaeu’s world maps became standard atlas plates across Europe and remain iconic examples of 17th-century Dutch cartography.
