"Paths of Glory" is a 1957 American anti-war film directed by Stanley Kubrick. Starring Kirk Douglas, Ralph Meeker, and Adolphe Menjou, the film was released in the United States on December 25, 1957. Set during World War I, the film follows a French army regiment ordered to attack an impregnable German position. When the attack fails, three soldiers are chosen at random to be court-martialed for cowardice. Though it wasn't nominated for any Academy Awards, "Paths of Glory" is now recognized as one of the greatest war films ever made, and has been selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry.
